Description of Responsibilities: The position is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction for the College's development programs including Major Gifts, Planned Gifts, the Arts Center, and the Annual Fund. Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Director will create and implement the annual development plan and strategy. The Director of Individual Giving serves as the senior fund raising professional and chief major gifts officer with responsibility for building a diverse fundraising operation including volunteer and other fund raising professionals, supervisory personnel and support staff. Duties include (but are not limited to):
- Serves as chief development liaison with deans, vice presidents and program directors.
- Responsible for the design and implementation of major gift cultivation and solicitation strategies and develops and maintains key, long-term relationships with donors and prospects.
- Establishes performance goals for all members of the development team.
- Supervises the identification of new prospects as well as research conducted on prospects at the highest level.
- In conjunction with office manager, develops and monitors Development Office budget.
- Works closely with Alumni Office.
- Position is accountable for reaching development goals set by Trustees and senior management of the College.
- Oversees management of the College's top 100 donors with an updated and personalized cultivation and stewardship plan and ensures that such plan is implemented.
- Responsible for the design and implementation of major gift cultivation and solicitation strategies for a portfolio of 75 individual prospects and serves as primary staff for Vice President and President portfolio management.
- Directs and supervises assigned personnel including two major gift officers, annual fund associate director, and stewardship manager. Establishes performance goals for all members of the development team and annual performance metrics for gift officers.
- Works closely with VP and President creating opportunities for leadership engagement with prospects.
- Works closely with the Campaign Office to create and implement opportunities for engagement and tracking efforts. Directs and supervises assigned personnel including two major gift officers, annual fund associate director, and stewardship manager. Establishes performance goals for all members of the development team and annual performance metrics for gift officers.
Education: The Director of Individual Giving will have a Bachelor's Degree and at least five years of progressively responsible development experience, preferably in a higher education setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Leadership and ability to manage a team of development professionals required. Team building, sound judgment, integrity, creativity, excellent interpersonal and communication/presentation skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to think strategically are essential. Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point and database programs) also required. The Director must be able to work as part of a team while demonstrating the independence required in managing a portfolio of prospects and multiple projects concurrently. Travel, frequent after-hours work, and some weekend work are required.
Experience/Personal Qualifications: Prior experience in annual fund, major gifts, planned giving and campaigns is highly desirable. Advanced degree.
