Description of Responsibilities:
The Director of Planned Giving is responsible for implementing a comprehensive program of planned and deferred giving for RIT. The Director supervises and works with the Constituent Relations Officer to secure the highest level of support through the marketing and direct solicitation of planned gifts. The Director supports the planned giving needs of all fundraisers of the Institute and helps to educate the fundraisers about planned giving. In addition, the Director serves as prospect manager of 100 prospects, working closely with the Vice President, Assistant Vice President for Principal Gifts and members of the Board of Trustees on key cultivation strategies and implementation. Specifically, the Director: •raises, along with the AVP and associate director, upwards of $5 million annually in planned gifts •serves as a senior philanthropic advisor in gift planning and philanthropic services to RIT •manages a portfolio of 100 prospects and works directly with donors (and their financial advisors) to market, negotiate, and close a wide range of outright and planned giving arrangements including, but not limited to: charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder and lead trusts, retained life estates, gifts of real estate, and bequest intentions •cultivates the support of professionals and volunteers within the community with the capacity to encourage individuals to include RIT in their charitable estate plans •has responsibility for the solicitation and stewardship strategies for deferred gift •serves as the division liaison to Osher and RITirees

Law degree or estate planning background is preferred. Experience with fund raising campaigns is a plus. Experience in higher education preferred.
Experience/Personal Qualifications:
The Director will have 4-7 years direct experience in gift planning, major gift fund raising or tax law, estate and/or financial planning; familiarity with estate planning methods such as wills, trusts, life income plans, and charitable giving; knowledge of Federal tax law and its application to estate planning; familiarity with the sale, purchase and transfer of securities, tangible personal property and real property for gift purposes; some familiarity with general accounting principles; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to demonstrate skill, initiative and confidence in planned gifts solicitation; proven negotiating and marketing skills; excellent program planning and implementation, and presentation skills; ability to work in goal-oriented environment and contribute to a team effort. Must have a bachelor’s degree, a high degree of computer literacy, and a willingness to travel.
