Description of Responsibilities:
The Associate Director reports to the Senior Director of Advancement and works in close collaboration with the Executive Director on gift discussions and proposals. The Associate Director is responsible primarily for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts ($100K+) and George Eastman Circle gifts as appropriate to support the Simon Business School fundraising efforts. This officer will support the broad-based needs, initiatives and priorities of Simon Business School. The Associate Director will work both independently and in concert with Simon Business School Advancement colleagues, Simon leadership, faculty, staff, and volunteers to strategize, solicit and steward gifts from alumni and other donors. They will carry a portfolio of approximately 125 major gift prospects and will make a minimum of 150 face-to-face visits per year. This position will require national travel.

The Associate Director will:

  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and senior university administrators; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
  • Effectively manage a prospect solicitation pipeline by initiating and/or strengthening relationships, with an emphasis on major gift prospects
  • Create strategies for and solicit donors, based on a thorough knowledge of both the stewardship process and the sophisticated cultivation process of this particular donor base.
  • Efficiently plan productive travel.
  • Actively use EverTrue and OASIS databases in identification of prospects, event attendees, and donors. Prepare contact reports following visits and events
  • Manage stewardship initiatives for major gifts, including but not limited to Simon’s Scholar/Donor matching program in collaboration with the admissions department. Work closely with the development associate on this important work.
  • Manage strategy and reporting as Simon’s liaison to the University’s Annual giving and George Eastman Circle program. Other duties as assigned

Education:
Bachelor’s degree Required

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

5+ years of development or closely related experience at a university or college or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Superb oral, written and interpersonal skills required.
  • Solid relationship-building skills, able to interface with alumni, donors, volunteers, leading faculty, administrators and trustees
  • Excellent organization and project management skills, with an ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with keen attention to detail.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising – able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and senior university administrators; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team to accomplish objectives
  • Make one or two multi-day trips per month sufficient to meet the goal of 150 face-to-face visits per year
  • A personal belief in mission, goals and objectives of private higher education
  • Demonstrated ability to work with volunteers and donors
  • Flexibility – given the changing demands of executing a comprehensive capital campaign, responsibilities within this position may change
