Description of Responsibilities:
SUNY Brockport invites applications for a Major Gift Officer in the Office of Advancement. The Major Gift Officer plays a critical role in the fundraising strategy, focusing on cultivating, soliciting, stewarding, and expanding relationships with prospects and donors from all constituent groups of the University who have the capacity to contribute gifts of $25,000+. The Major Gift Officer manages a portfolio of approximately 125-150 relationships comprised of prospects, donors, and friends of the university who have the capacity to make gifts at the major gift level. The Major Gift Officer is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the moves management program for all assigned constituents with a goal of securing new major gifts in support of university fundraising priorities.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of education or an internationally recognized college or university.

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in fundraising, sales, business development, or a related field where cultivating and maintaining long-term relationships was a key component of success.
  • A track record of securing commitments and fostering lasting connections, whether through major gift fundraising, consultative sales, or strategic partnership development.
  • Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising.
  • Proven ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information and prepare effective, accurate and timely reports and proposals.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of ethics related to advancement activities and to use discretion in interactions with prospects, donors and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse community.
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work on weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in fundraising, donor relations or nonprofit development.
  • Proven track record of managing prospect and donor portfolios with experience in soliciting donations from major gift level donors.
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of fundraising principles and practices in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with CRM software such as Raisers Edge, Financial Edge, DonorPerfect and Salesforce etc.
