Description of Responsibilities: The Manager, Donor Engagement & Events (MDEE) plays an essential fundraising role on the Make-A-Wish team and is based in the Rochester office. The MDEE is responsible for the strategic engagement and growth of individual and business relationships and manages official Make-A-Wish fundraising/donor events (including Rochester Gala, Corning Walk, and Donor Appreciation). Additionally, he/she is responsible for managing the volunteer New Leadership Council and assorted fundraising/stewardship activities, including developing sponsorship/funding proposals and playing an important role in ongoing data analysis and optimization.

The MDEE will report to the Rochester Regional Director and work in partnership with other departments and team members throughout the Metro & WNY Chapter. The MDEE must be adept at managing donor relationships, planning high impact fundraising events, and working with volunteers. He/she must be sincere, informative and creative in communications, as well as be well-versed in fundraising best practices. He/she will be expected to track progress and be responsible for meeting specific revenue goals and other relevant metrics.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Donor Engagement
    • Build and manage a portfolio of individual and organizational prospects/supporters by developing and executing effective and meaningful cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies based on best practices. This may include, but is not limited to, in-person visits, emails, phone calls, stewardship events, written correspondence, video messaging, and social media.
    • Work in concert with regional colleagues to develop strategic, creative, and cost-effective stewardship initiatives for all types of donors (annual, monthly, event, planned, etc.).
    • Work closely with Regional Director and Community Fundraising Coordinator to monitor donor activity, reports and online initiatives, provide exceptional donor relations, and ensure appropriate team attention to exceptional gifts.
    • Contribute to the chapter's efforts to obtain and grow in-kind support.
  • Event Planning 
    • Play leadership role for annual Gala in concert with Regional Director. Responsible for fundraising and sponsorship solicitations, event logistics, working with committees, and enlisting other colleagues and volunteers as necessary. Assist with identifying event chairs/honorees, speakers/wish families, and mission engagement moments as needed.
    • Work directly with the Community Fundraising Coordinator to manage the Walk for Wishes. 
    • Assist in planning annual donor stewardship/recognition events.
    • Work with Finance, Brand and Communication, and Volunteer Resources departments to plan resources relevant to events.
  • Other
    • Manage the volunteer New Leadership Council, working with the chair, committee and colleagues to enhance overall impact and establish annual objectives, work plans, and timelines, in alignment with Chapter's objectives. Ensure members' compliance with MAW's volunteer leader financial commitments, training, and conflict of interest policies. Schedule meetings, develop meeting agendas, and prepare meeting notes. 
    • Responsible for developing assorted grant funding proposals, tracking progress, and reporting. Work with Regional Director to prospect new opportunities and maintain relationships with the appropriate contacts. 
    • Develop and execute appropriate elements of the Development Team's annual plan to ensure all budgeted revenue targets are met and growth is continued in priority areas.
    • Maintain compliance with Make-A-Wish America brand standards and policies. 
    • Act as an ambassador in the community supporting positive brand awareness.

Education: Bachelor's degree required, preferably with a focus in communications, marketing, business, or related field.
Experience/Personal Qualifications: 

  • Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising with demonstrated success. 
  • Proven track record of managing and enhancing relationships with varied audiences including community, corporate, volunteer, and media constituencies. 
  • Experience in planning events and drafting proposals. 
  • General computer proficiency required. Experience with database systems, such as Raiser's Edge or Salesforce, and graphic design programs a plus. 
  • Available to work a varied schedule; evenings and weekends to ensure coverage at Make-A-Wish and industry-related events. 
  • Commitment to and a passion for the mission of Make-A-Wish. 
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
