Overview: Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, has been helping animals and people since 1873. Our organization cares for around 7500 animals each year and makes possible a variety of programs to address issues that contribute to the surrender of unwanted animals. As an open-admission organization, we accept every animal in need of help. The Grant and Foundation Relations position will be responsible for soliciting donations from private and corporate foundations in order to secure funding to provide for Lollypop Farm’s mission. This position will be an essential member of the development team and will research new grant funding opportunities including potential state and government grants to support the programs and mission of Lollypop Farm.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Write proposal narratives, including needs assessments, project descriptions, program outcomes, etc.
  • Compile grant documents, review budgets and edit application materials
  • Oversee cycle of grant and foundation requests ensuring applications are accurate and up-to-date, and that no deadlines are missed
  • Submit grant reports in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with finance and program departments for proposal and report input, as well as data requests
  • Work with Director of Development to set annual grant goals
  • Conduct prospect research for potential grant and foundation funders including state and government funding
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable state/ federal laws
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations for self and others
  • Perform other duties as requested to meet organization needs

Experience/Personal Qualifications: Must be able to demonstrate a successful track record of grant research, preparation and submission to diverse funding sources (local, state, federal and private). Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.


  • Superior written communications skills and strong interpersonal skills, both in person and by phone.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using the most recent versions of computer software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management (Raisers Edge preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment with a professional demeanor, self-reliance, and resourcefulness.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands while achieving work goals.
