Description of Responsibilities: The Associate Director of Volunteer Engagement and Programs is responsible for providing staff leadership and support for all pipeline management and lifelong engagement efforts associated with the University’s national network of alumni, parent, and community volunteers. The incumbent will support the central coordination of volunteers at all levels, with particular emphasis on strengthening the pipeline of volunteer leaders. In coordination with the Director of Volunteer Engagement and Programs, the Associate Director will partner with colleagues across Advancement to develop and support standard nomination and membership processes. As part of the overall Volunteer Engagement Program, the Associate Director will help identify strategies and programs that will increase volunteer engagement across the entire University, focusing on several areas of volunteer management including but not limited to: strategic planning, orientation and training, communications, evaluation, and recognition. The Associate Director will also be responsible for engaging directly with current and prospective volunteers to support pipeline development.   • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of applicable experience with at least 3 years in Advancement/Alumni Relations at an educational institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Volunteer management/coordination experience highly preferred.
  • Project management experience preferred.
  • Experience in a large matrix advancement organization and in a complex university setting strongly preferred.

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of volunteer management principles and best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various constituent groups, colleagues, volunteers and campus partners.
  • Ability to see and understand the objectives of other departments of University Advancement and of schools of the University and to integrate his/her goals with those objectives.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage, motivate, and lead alumni and volunteer leadership
  • Ability to gather, condense and synthesize information and ability to provide accurate analysis and summaries
  • Experience with computer technologies and sophisticated software applications
  • Sufficiently well organized.
  • Highly motivated and independent working style.
  • Occasional travel, evening, and weekend work.
