Description of Responsibilities: The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Development and works closely with the Senior Associate Director of Development & Alumni Relations and the Database Manager. Development is part of an Advancement team which includes the Enrollment and Marketing departments. The Assistant Director is responsible for leading annual fund efforts, including volunteer engagement in solicitation, events, mailings and social media strategies. With autonomy in terms of having a subset of the department budget and participating in setting goals, the position plays a key role in the strength of the school.

The Harley Fund has grown by 50% in the past six years during the largest campaign in the history of the school.The position requires strong skills in generating reports and analyzing data for strategy development, preferably with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge.

  • Working closely with the Director of Development and other members of the team, the Assistant Director is responsible for analysis and strategy to grow the Harley Fund using creative methods that capitalize on the relationships within the Harley School community. 
  • Responsible for increasing the number of leadership annual fund donors (currently $1,000+) through the Harley Circle recognition society and engaging staff and volunteers in soliciting leadership annual fund gifts.
  • Lead the vision for and implementation of events that delight Harley constituents for the purposes of fundraising and stewardship and also support events for the enrollment team. The Development Office oversees several community events but mostly focuses on a few large events such as our Grandparents & Special Friends Day in November and the spring annual fundraising gala, called Blast!
  • Engage development volunteers in strategies to solicit, attract and retain donors to the Harley Fund through 1:1 outreach and events and play a key role in managing and tapping the involvement of Development Committee volunteers.
  • Actively engage in stewardship activities and planning, as led by the Senior Associate Director of Development & Alumni Relations.
  • Work with either Harley’s graphic designer or outside vendors to create materials that are in keeping with Harley School branding standards.
  • Support as needed for some logistics of other advancement events such as Sundae Sunday at the beginning of school, new parent receptions and dinner in September, Candlelight alumni reception in December, Reunion Weekend (usually in mid-June) and other related activities for the School.

Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

  • Five years of event planning, volunteer management, donor recognition, and strategic fundraising required, preferably in an independent school or small non-profit organization.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and time management skills.
  • At least two years of experience utilizing donor databases to build successful fundraising programs. Knowledge of Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge is strongly preferred. Note: the organization also uses Blackbaud Financial Edge and Education modules.
  • The position is exempt from overtime and works evenings and weekends, as needed (approximately 8-10 events per year). 
  • Well qualified candidates will have excellent organizational skills, strong work ethic, productivity, professionalism, customer focus, interpersonal skills, communication skills, technical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
