Description of Responsibilities: The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan designed to provide meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, service, personal and professional development, and events and programs for our 50,000+ alumni to enhance loyalty, dedication, and support for Alfred State College. The Director of Alumni Relations oversees the planning and execution of alumni chapters and activities in targeted regions across the country to enhance alumni engagement and cultivate connections. The Director of Alumni Relations develops and maintains cooperative and collaborative relationships and programs with college units, such as Admissions, Career Services, Athletics, Student Affairs, and academic departments. The Director of Alumni Relations is also responsible for the managing the scholarships of the division and soliciting and stewarding the custodians, as well as soliciting new gift opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides vision, leadership, and oversight to the Office of Alumni Relations, and other partners and committees to plan and execute the vision and strategy of the College related to alumni engagement.
  • Engage alumni in the life of the College through consistent and positive communication using electronic, print, web, and social media (including the Alumni Magazine), exceptional customer service, and meaningful opportunities for volunteerism, service, personal and professional development, and events and programs.
  • Facilitates connections with students and young alumni to foster philanthropy, engagement, and alumni connections.
  • Co-Chair/chair the Homecoming Family Weekend committee and help execute all activities for alumni, students, faculty, staff, and the community.
  • Develop and execute plans and activities for Alumni Chapters and/or alumni affinity groups (academic, special interest, professional affiliations, etc.), identifies and cultivates volunteer leadership, develops strategies for the success of each group, and supports their events and activities.
  • Identify and launch loyalty programs providing a benefit or service to alumni to cultivate volunteers and donors and generate income for the Alumni fund.
  • Continue to develop, manage the process & present Alumni Awards when applicable, including the Distinguished Alumni Award, the Young Alumni Award, President's Medallion and Honorary Doctorate.
  • Manage the scholarships of the division and solicit and steward the custodians.
  • Manage a list of assigned prospects to cultivate, soliciting, and steward.
  • Manage budgets for the Office of Alumni Relations and the Homecoming Committee.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Office of Institutional Advancement by working on special projects and performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement.

Education: Required Qualifications: Associates degree required and five years equivalent experience in a related field. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor degree preferred. Alfred State College alumni preferred. Experience in education or non-profit fundraising. Raiser's Edge experience desired.
