Description of Responsibilities: The Office of College Advancement at SUNY Geneseo is seeking an Associate Director of Development. Come join our Development Team of five frontline fundraisers and experience the joy and excitement of working with passionate and dedicated alumni and donors who are making a transformational impact on students’ lives. This year marks the 150th anniversary of SUNY Geneseo and the 50th anniversary of the Geneseo Foundation, and we’d love to have you join us in the celebration.

The Associate Director of Development (ADOD) manages a portfolio of approximately 225 relationships comprised of donors, prospects, and volunteers who have the capacity to make annual gifts at the leadership level ($1,000 to $5,000). The ADOD is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the moves management program for all assigned constituents with a goal of securing new leadership level gifts, while also identifying those who have major gift or planned gift potential. The ADOD will be assigned to raise private support in the form of outright and planned gift commitments from constituents primarily throughout New York State.

The ADOD reports to the Assistant Vice President for College Advancement and is part of the development team within College Advancement. The ADOD works collaboratively with College Advancement colleagues and campus partners to develop, implement and achieve strategic plans for increasing private support for SUNY Geneseo. The ADOD is directly involved in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of leadership gifts and is evaluated by established fundraising metrics to ensure the College achieves ambitious fundraising goals.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising or equivalent sales environment.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills as well as excellent time management, a strong inclination to action and the ability to record, track and respond to data trends. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, analytical and planning skills, a high degree of professionalism and a sensitivity to long-term relationship building and stewardship.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and successfully in a fast-paced environment with professionalism.
  • Dedication to learning and implementing best practices in fundraising. 
  • Demonstrated commitment and contributions to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Ability to travel and occasional weekend and evening work is required. 
  • Ability to utilize the CRM system and basic Microsoft office suite programs, and ability to adapt to and use future technologies
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to make off campus donor/prospect visits and attend events.
