Description of Responsibilities: The Grants Associate reports to the Director, Grants and supports the overall fundraising efforts of the grants team. They research potential funders and gather data for grant proposals in partnership with others on the grants team and the Foundation staff. The Grants Associate is also responsible for establishing relationships with a portfolio of funders and writing grants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and qualify private foundations, government grant programs, and other potential grant makers to guide the grants team strategy 
  • Analyze local and state-level data to support case statements for Rochester Regional Health programs and projects 
  • Cultivate relationships with a portfolio of grant funders for programmatic and capital projects 
  • Collaborate with Foundation staff to assist with proposal writing, fundraising strategy and additional writing tasks as assigned 
  • Contribute to team discussions with system-wide managers and staff to identify potentially grant fundable projects 
  • Consistently use the Raiser’s Edge database to document all activities, including written strategies, actions and proposals

Education: Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. - At least 2 years of experience in development, grant writing or other fundraising roles.

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 
  • At least 2 years of experience in development, grant writing or other fundraising roles.

Desired Attributes:

  • Basic knowledge of fundraising principles and willing to learn grant writing and grant management processes, with an emphasis on research, qualification and proposal writing 
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, manage a timeline and adapt quickly to updated priorities and projects 
  • Strong desire to contribute to the success of the Grants Team with focus, energy and problem-solving ability 
  • Excellent business acumen and superior written communication skills 
  • Willingness to jump in where needed, work independently and learn 
  • Experience with online grant submission platforms (NYS Grants Gateway, Grants.gov) and knowledge of research databases for grant seeking, IRS Form 990, and statistical data to support need statements is a plus.
