Description of Responsibilities: The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for working with Monroe Community College's internal and external constituencies as part of a coordinated development effort to raise both unrestricted and restricted revenue. This position is integral to the MCC Foundation's strategic initiative to grow scholarships and academic endowment; hence there will be a strong emphasis on raising funds to support these efforts. The successful candidate will engage in prospect research, prepare and deliver fundraising proposals, make personal prospect visits alone or with staff or volunteers, and build and maintain relationships with internal and external colleagues, benefactors, and board members.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Development, the Assistant Director of Development will play a key role in the Foundation's development efforts and will join a dynamic team that works to enhance private philanthropic support for MCC. Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Primary Functions:
    • Make personal prospect visits alone, with advancement staff or with volunteers for the purpose of qualification and promoting a variety of gifts.
    • Research and prepare confidential prospect profiles.
    • Collaborate with internal colleagues to prepare and draft gift proposals to prospects.
    • Develop and execute donor stewardship plans.
    • Document contacts, strategies and prospect movements using the Foundation's CRM system.
    • Make arrangements for committee meetings and special events as assigned.
    • Prepare correspondence, reports, and other written materials.
    • Serve as staff liaison to assigned board committees, support and manage committee meetings, provide direction for staff and volunteers, and generate regular updates and progress reports.
    • Participate as a full member of the Foundation's advancement team including professional development activities and staff meetings.
  • Secondary Functions:
    • Plan and develop annual fundraising goals and objectives; prepare and manage annual budgets for special events and assigned projects.
    • Prepare and analyze reports of activities and programs.
    • Work with Development team to develop and recommend donor engagement policies, procedures and standards to enhance donor relations with the Foundation.
    • All other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Required: Earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or an associate's degree with five or more years of progressive experience in a comprehensive development program including stewardship/donor relations, event management, non-profit fundraising or related responsibilities.
  • Preferred: Earned master's degree in nonprofit management, development or related field from an accredited institution.

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

Required:

  • Experience in customer service, sales, fundraising, advertising or a related field with demonstrated accomplishments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to create efficient systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior computer skills, including high proficiency in: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; expected to learn and use the database and reporting software program for development (Raiser's Edge).Detail-oriented, energetic self-starter with a positive and enthusiastic outlook.
  • Vision to plan ahead, take initiative and set and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work collaboratively with others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with a diverse audience of alumni and donors.
Preferred:
  • Three or more years' experience in a comprehensive development program including stewardship/donor relations, event management, non-profit fundraising or related responsibilities.
  • Experience in budget and volunteer management.
  • Development experience with increasing responsibilities in an academic setting or with a public entity.
  • Experience with social media and other web-related communication tools.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages proficiently
