  • Effectively manage a prospect pipeline of 150-200 individual prospects to initiate and/or strengthen relationships with major gift prospects and create strategies for and solicit donors capable of contributing a leadership or major gift to SUNY Brockport by participating in all aspects of the gift cycle:
    • (1) initiate contacts with potential donors;
    • (2) develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and senior university administrators;
    • (3) move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure;
    • (4) make solicitations when appropriate;
    • (5) maintain stewardship contacts with donors
  • * In consultation with the Assistant Vice President for Advancement, make one or two multi-day trips per month sufficient to meet the goal of at least 180-250 meaningful connections per year.
  • * Execute and document via contact reports an average of 15-20 meaningful connections/month.
  • * Execute and report on quarterly/annual fundraising plans, donor solicitations identification, cultivation, campaigns (capital and annual) and stewardship efforts.
  • * Serve as liaison to an academic School or key academic unit and work with the appropriate Dean/Director to develop strategies intended to build individual relationships with prospective donors that match the priorities of the unit. In concert with the Dean/Director of each unit, develop and implement strategies for effective engagement of individuals who will serve a leadership role as members of an advisory/ambassador boards or other group of leadership volunteers if applicable to the particular unit.
  • * Assist in short and long-term divisional strategic planning activities to create and implement meaningful development goals and objectives.
  • *Work collaboratively and strategically with the College leadership, Brockport Foundation, and other volunteer leaders and the entire Advancement team to cultivate and solicit donors for College priorities.
  • *As a member of the Advancement team, participate in and support division-wide events and functions to ensure successful execution throughout the year as required and/or requested.
  • *Adhere to the Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethical Standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.
  • * Work collaboratively with other Advancement staff members as part of the Prospect Management Team offering prospect engagement, stewardship and solicitation strategy and counsel; serve as a resource for fundraising staff from identifying potential volunteer connections to knowing about meeting and event spaces in key locations and providing key engagement opportunities and information around campus/community events.

Education: * Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization* Graduate degree preferred

Experience/Personal Qualifications:

  • * Fundraising and/or relational, face-to-face sales or donor relations experience.
  • * Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to Advancement activities, and to use discretion in interactions with prospects, donors, volunteers, and others.
  • *Proven ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective, accurate and timely reports, proposals, and other documents in support of development objectives.
  • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • *Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse community.
  • Ability and willingness to travel/work extensively, both weekdays and weekends.
  • *Proficient in MS Office.Preferred
  • Significant experience (three or more years) in major and planned gift fund raising with an established record of closing a broad range of gifts.
  • * Professional experience working in higher education or in a non-profit environment.
  • * Experience with Fundraiser Performance Management (Blackbaud) or other constituent management system(s).
