Hamlin's Halloweenathon | Facebook

Saturday, October 1st is Hamlin Scream Fest, in which we like to spotlight local nonprofits. We offer 15'x15' (and occasionally larger) spaces for nonprofits to promote or fundraise at the festival. Unlike fests that focus on vendors, ours puts the nonprofits front and center - we just ask that they meet two criteria.

1. Have some fall/Halloween flair.
2. Have an activity that will draw the public to the booth and add to the festival. Past examples have been face painting, a puppy kissing booth, live insect displays, prize wheels, etc.

We also pick a few nonprofits to get spotlighted as guest judges for the three contests we run through the day, giving them extra exposure at the most crowd-drawing moments at the festival. The fest is open to the public from noon until 6 pm this year and ends with a fireworks show and concert. Hamlin Recreation and the Friends of Hamlin Rec are providing a number of family-friendly activities to draw the public in. The setup starts at 10 am.

The Rochester Oratorio Society (ROS) (www.rossings.org) is in search for someone who is interested in volunteering their time by helping with writing grants. They have a small budget for per-grant stipends, but this would be more of a labor of love to support the great work ROS is doing, which now includes several educational opportunities for local children, teens, and young adults. Anyone interested can reach Jenny Horn at 585-465-9858 or [email protected].

Board Opportunity: The Dimitri House, Inc., a non-profit in downtown Rochester that addresses food insecurity and homelessness is looking for individuals with fundraising, marketing/social media, or legal skills. Please contact John Albertini if interested.
