Member Spotlight: Apryl Calaci |
Name: Apryl Calaci (AY-prul Kuh-LAH-Chee) How long have you been working in the fundraising profession? I’ve been working in the fundraising profession for about 14 years. However, I have been volunteering in the sector for about 25 years. What do you love most about fundraising? I love the impact it has on the community. Development plays a crucial role in strengthening an entire organization, ensuring that all the incredible frontline staff have the resources they need to do their jobs effectively. It’s incredibly rewarding to connect with and work alongside people who are just as passionate about making a difference in the community as I am. Why did you decide to join AFPGV? To connect with other development professionals who are passionate about making a difference. Fundraising is more than just securing donations, it’s about building relationships and ensuring organizations have the resources they need to serve their communities. AFP provides valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and collaborate with others who share that mission. What do you enjoy most about being an AFPGV member? I’ve only just joined, but I’m excited about the opportunity to connect and network with other fundraising professionals and contribute as a member of the Philanthropy Day Committee! Every I’ve met so far has been wonderful! What example would you give of a strategy or practice you learned from a fellow AFPGV member or a recent AFPGV educational event that you have recently applied in the workplace that has brought you success? One key lesson I’ve already learned from AFP is the power of being connected with other fundraising professionals. Networking within AFP not only strengthens your career but also provides valuable insights into different organizations…their cultures, leadership, and fundraising approaches. I’ve recently applied this by engaging in conversations with members about best practices and learning more about various nonprofits in our community. This has already given me a broader perspective on the sector and where I can grow professionally while strengthening the work I do now. Why is Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (I.D.E.A.) important to you and for the work we do every day as fundraising professionals? Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (I.D.E.A.) is important to fundraising because philanthropy should reflect and serve the diverse communities we work in. As fundraising professionals, it’s our responsibility to ensure that all voices are heard, that donors and supporters come from all backgrounds and that the resources we secure are distributed equitably. What is your advice to other AFPGV members? Take full advantage of the network around you. The more you connect with fellow fundraisers, the more you’ll learn about best practices, new opportunities, and the nonprofit sector. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek out mentorship, and engage. Let's get to know you!
