How long have you been working in the fundraising profession?
10 years as a development administrator and 2 years as a direct fundraising professional

What do you love most about fundraising?
The stories – there is something invigorating about hearing people’s stories and their connection to a mission, project or cause.

Why did you decide to join AFPGV?
AFPGV offers amazing networking and educational opportunities; especially for individuals who are new to the profession and are looking to learn and further understand the language of fundraising

What do you enjoy most about being an AFPGV member?
I most enjoy educational offerings and networking opportunities.

Why is Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (I.D.E.A.) important to you and for the work we do every day as fundraising professionals?
It is very necessary to intentional thread the tenets of IDEA through all of our fundraising efforts. People from all demographics and communities have time, talent and treasure to support an organization’s mission and programmatic efforts. As we build our work plans and identify our strategic priorities for future fundraising we must apply an equity lens by asking the following questions:

  1. Who are primary funders/supporters?
  2. Is there historical significance or legacy attached to generating support from this group?
  3. Are we over-valuing a specific group of supporters, in a way that amplifies our blind spot towards other potential supporters (such as faith-based communities, sororities or fraternities)?
  4. Who’s missing? (be specific)
  5. Are there other groups, foundations or people with whom we can engage to share our mission and story?

What is your advice to other AFPGV members?
Lean In!! Boldly, reach out to other AFPGV members to connect over coffee and learn their story and share your own. Also, participate in the educational offerings and conferences for ongoing professional development.
