How did you become involved with AFP?
A colleague of mine served on the AFPGV Board and brought me along to the Holiday Party. In just a short time, I met so many great people and found such value in the program that I was hooked.

How did you find yourself working in fundraising- was it always something you wanted to do?
Like many, I landed in fundraising accidentally. I worked for a local ad agency and really enjoy the portion of my job that involved event planning for my clients. I learned of an event coordinator position at HCS and was really intrigued by the idea of pairing my love for event planning with a greater cause. I wanted to be able to put my passion into something that I would be able to see the impact. The rest is history! I’ve been at HCS for 14 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed the different roles I’ve served within the development and advancement teams, most recently as director of advancement. I truly love the mission of the organization, and all of the people I’m able to work with.

What is your best piece of advice to someone who currently works, or would like to work in the fundraising industry?
Believe in and stand behind the mission of the organization.

What are three things you can’t live without?  1) Family & friends, 2) music of any kind, and 3) Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters

What is your favorite song lyric or quote?
The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time – James Taylor

How do you cope with work related stress?
It’s important to not let the day to day stress get to you, or to let the unexpected rattle you. It’s all about perspective, planning -- and adding humor, when appropriate. At HCS, humor is one of our values which I greatly appreciate!
